misdemeanor drug charge...

Ok I have been looking for work since 2008 and as of today April 2010 havnt found anything. So I am thinking of pursuing on getting CDL's.
Now here is my problem and question...I have a misdemeanor drug charge (crack pipe). I was placed on probation for 18 months and drug tested at which I passed each and every time, and I am clean. But that was about 3 yrs ago. There is a college who does truck driver training and its 1 on 1 driving.
My question is can someone with a misdemeanor charge drive a truck? And if so how old does the conviction have to be in order to get a job driving a truck because of it. Also does a misdemeanor larceny a major issue. ... I accepted the responsibilities for my plunders and now willing to move on with my life to a better life anyways...
So how does one try and get past all this when companies want to continue punishing those with felonies and misdemeanors?..We paid once and now twice trying to get a job... when do we get a second chance to prove ourselves?
I'm sorry for rambling..
